Friends and Neighbors
I am going to start making my blog posts visible only to my "friends" on vox.com. Please create a vox account (really easy and free -- Mom, you can figure this out in 5 min, I promise!) and then add me as a friend (and "join my neighborhood") so you can continue to read my posts!
And the highlight of my day: Even though my new hometown is a mere 12.6 square miles, I went on a 6 mile run this evening and did not repeat any part of my route! YAY! I even discovered a whole new area of town while running past myriad antebellum homes! (Oh the Soc St teacher in me never goes away... I think my darlings students are going to have to do photo essays of these historic structures right here in their hometown! Maybe oral history projects of the people who reside in these homes if I can find a way to get this approved...) I am getting excited about the school year!!!!!

I am not sure if you remember me, but I graduated from Duke in 2006 and I was a crewleader for BUILD your freshman year. I stumbled upon your blog almost by accident (I don't know if you know this, but I grew up in Jackson, Miss.) and wanted to wish you well! Mississippi is truly another world. . . you should remember this, William Faulkner once said "to understand the world, you need to understand a place like Mississippi." Also, I don't know if you are still involved in religious life, but I have a lot of friends who still live/returned to Jackson and are members of the synagogue there, so let me know if you would like me to put you in touch with anyone.
